Patrick McDonnell is a traditional artist, trained in the old master's techniques elaborated by Jacques Maroger using mastic resin and bee's wax.
He studied pastel painting with Edith and Richard Goetz.
Studied oil painting in France, Germany and New Mexico using the Maroger Medium with Mr. Siegfried Hahn (winner of Turner Gold Medal winner Royal Academy) and Mr. Howard Wexler (Parson's School of Design) Mr Hahn named Patrick McDonnnell as one of his top five students.

Studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts iand the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs, Paris France
Awarded a Harriet Wooley Grant to live and work in an Artist's studio in the Cité Universitaire, Paris France
He worked in the etching and engraving studio of the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and studied the collection of the Cabinet des Estampes (Print Collection) in the Biblioteque National de France
He passed different Beaux Arts examinations History of Art, Artistic Morphology, Mosaic, Fresco, etc... to obtain an equivalence of a French Bachelor's Degree from the Univesity of Paris.

Preparing a PhD in communication (Combined program at University of Montreal, University of Quebec in Montreal, University of Concordia).
He co-taught a course on psychiatry for the layman at the Douglas Hospital with Drs. Gert Morgenstern and Charles Cahn.
